چکیده
Habitat mapping as defined by plant communities is a common component of the planning and monitoring for conservation management. This study provided the test of two classifiers for producing the vegetation mapping in a tropical island. The selected area is Prathong Island, Phang Nga Province, Southern part of Thailand. The performance of the support vector machines (SVMs) image classification technique for vegetation classifying was assessed and compared with maximum likelihood classifier (MLC). The vegetation was grouped into 6 categories as Grassland, Beach forest, Mangrove forest, Swamp forest, Sand and Water. The overall and individual classification results were compared to find out the suitable classifier for producing a vegetation map. THEOS multispectral image with 15-m resolution, achieved on 19

Malacological survey in Phang-Nga Province, southern Thailand, pre- and post-Indian Ocean tsunami.
Three malacological surveys were conducted in the Takua Pa District of Phang-Nga Province, southern Thailand, before and after the Indian Ocean Tsunami disaster. Twenty-nine species of fresh- and brackish-water snails were found, in which 10 species of freshwater snails were present, including live Pila polita; 8 species were of medical importance. Two brackish-water snails, Nerita articulata a...
متن کاملMicrobial Ecology of Thailand Tsunami and Non-Tsunami Affected Terrestrials
The effects of tsunamis on microbial ecologies have been ill-defined, especially in Phang Nga province, Thailand. This ecosystem was catastrophically impacted by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami as well as the 600 year-old tsunami in Phra Thong island, Phang Nga province. No study has been conducted to elucidate their effects on microbial ecology. This study represents the first to elucidate their...
متن کاملA four-dimensional population module for the analysis of future adaptive capacity in the Phang Nga province of Thailand
In this paper we describe an innovative aspect of the population module in the context of an ongoing comprehensive modelling effort to assess future populationenvironment interactions through specific case studies. A particular focus of our study is the vulnerability of coastal populations to environmental factors and their future adaptive capacity. Based on the four-dimensional cross-classific...

A new species is described, Lithocarpus orbicarpus Strijk, collected from Ton Pariwat Wildlife Sanctuary, Mueang district, Phang Nga Province in the Peninsular Floristic Region of Thailand. We provide the first technical illustrations and colour photographs of the new species, as well as a description of its conservation status and the collecting locality. The species can be easily distinguishe...
متن کاملBiology of Culex sitiens, a Predominant Mosquito in Phang Nga, Thailand after a Tsunami
A tsunami affected area in Phang Nga province, Thailand was explored randomly as some freshwater sites had changed into brackish-water sites. A survey of four areas found Culex sitiens to be the most dominant mosquito species. This mosquito prefers to breed in putrefied water with garbage and it was found in almost every stagnant, brackish-water site in full sunlight. The larval density was more...
